Mortgage Lender Licensing: The Basics Every Applicant Should Know

NMLS registration

Most states process mortgage lender and servicer licenses through the NMLS. You'll create a company record, submit an MU1 filing, and associate qualifying individuals with the appropriate MU2 and MU4 filings.

Surety bond amounts and minimum net-worth requirements vary widely by state and license type. Many states also require audited financial statements and evidence of a line of credit for funding loans.
